Glass Collection at Mount Olivet

Saturdays, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.

GLASS RECYCLING

What: Glass collection for recycling

Where: Mount Olivet Episcopal Church, 530 Pelican Ave., New Orleans, LA 70114

When: Every Saturday, 9:00 a.m.–1 p.m.

Why: Glass is 100% recyclable, but there's currently no curbside glass recycling in New Orleans.

Mount Olivet Episcopal Church became a drop-off site in July 2021 for Glass Half Full, a New Orleans-based grassroots glass recycling project. Glass Half Full grinds the collected glass into sand that, in part, is used for Louisiana coastal restoration and the creation of sandbags for flood mitigation.

More than 28 billion glass bottles and jars end up in landfills in America annually, and New Orleans lags behind the national average by only recycling about 3% of our trash. Since 2020, Glass Half Full has diverted 20 million pounds of glass from landfills. As of July 2024, Mount Olivet has transported over 200,000 pounds of glass to their processing facility on Louisa Street!
